Every illustration in Ugly Dougie began with a pencil, a piece of paper and a little imagination.
I made a conscious decision to draw the illustrations by hand, keeping the small imperfections and individual character that make each drawing unique.
In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, I wanted to create something that feels personal, playful and wonderfully human.
And by leaving the illustrations for children to colour, the creative journey doesn’t end with me. It continues with every little artist who opens the book.
